Expect The Unexpected

Do you ever have this sense or this deep intuitive feeling that there are massive changes on the horizon and you wonder if those feelings are genuine?

Do you ever wonder that if those feelings are genuine- when would they happen?

Or maybe if those specific feelings would come to fruition, would they appear exactly the way you’ve felt them?

If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, then your algorithm has landed you to the right post.

I’m here to tell you that I have and currently am a walking and breathing example of the above listed musings.

Let me explain:

Just about a month ago, I had a dream that I had been in my office (which is surrounded by other office workers) and was asked to come with a short and slender woman. She appeared to be in her sixties with straight golden hair that had been cropped around her jawline. I followed her to the front office area where there had been a dimly lit medium sized conference room.
As I continued to follow her into this conference room, she had informed me that the company was going through a wave of layoffs and I had been on the list. Before the dream could continue any further, I had been awoken by the sound of my alarm on my phone.

I thought this dream odd as our company had just undergone a wave of layoffs six months prior, however, I did not discredit its validity entirely.

Fast forward to three weeks later …..

As I’m on vacation from the new year, I receive a text message from an old friend, warning me that my job could potentially be in jeopardy.
She would not tell me how she knew- just that she knew. I took her warning under advisement and I continued on for the following week doing my normal tasks and assignments. During my work day, I remained on guard, trying to determine if there was any signs of what she had warned me about. Fortunately, there had been no activity.

Another week had gone by and still nothing had happened.

I started to wonder if maybe this circulated rumor had held merit for a different part of the year, until the following week.

It was an early Thursday afternoon and it had quickly approached. During this time, I received information from a colleague that the corporate human resources representative was paying our company a visit that day.

Fast forward a couple hours later …

It was now around 2:00pm in the afternoon when my manager asked me to follow him to the front office area of the building and into the same conference room that had been represented in my dream.
I had been the last individual to arrive in the room and when I sat down in the black leather conference chair, I happened to notice that same slender woman from my dream. This woman had been sitting directly across the conference room table from me with paperwork cradled in her arms.

The next thing I knew, the human resource manager of our company site had been the one to inform us that it was our last day on the job and had proceeded to hand us our severance packages, which were nestled in navy blue folders. The room fell silent as I sat there in stark surprise that not only had my friend been correct about these layoffs occurring but also how accurate my dream had been. Moments later, we all exited the conference room and I walked back to my desk.

I gathered up my belongings and my manager proceeded to walk me out to my vehicle. My manager had apologized and thanked me for my years of service and everything that I had done. We both turned on our heels and I hopped into my vehicle, turning on the engine. As the engine quietly came to life, I sat there in silence.

Many thoughts had been circulating through my mind about what my steps would be and where my life would take me from the moment on. I wanted to quiet some of those louder thoughts and decided to go to the one place that I knew could do exactly that.

That’s right- Barnes & Noble.

I spent those next couple of hours applying to similar jobs, reading personal growth books about where to go from job loss and how to reinvent yourself after being in a job for a very long time and looking to make that career pivot.

I have acquired many skills and transferable knowledge from this career, however, I’m wondering if maybe this could be the new start of an entirely different career.

Have you experienced a similar situation where your intuition had been warning you of a potential life change, yet you decided to brush it off and see if it would happen?

Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below. I would love to hear them!
